    Twice a year, during late March/early April and September, BigPond Satellite incurs a brief degradation of service due to the sun passing behind the satellite. The sun generates large amounts of energy that overwhelm the signals that are received from the satellite at this time. The problem only lasts a few minutes and services should restore themselves. This phenomenon is common to all satellite services.

    Sun outages affect the different Telstra satellite services at different times determined by your geographical location and the satellite being used.     BigPond Satellite uses two different satellites to provide service. You can work out which satellite provides your service by observing the direction your satellite dish or antenna is pointing:

  • If your satellite dish/antenna points in an Easterly direction, your service is provided using PanAmSat-2 (PAS2). To determine the sun outage period, go to http://www.panamsat.com/global_network/calc_sun_outage.asp
  • If your satellite dish/antenna points in a Westerly direction, your service is provided using AsiaSat-3 (AS3). To determine the sun outage period, go to http://www.asiasat.com/eng/05_technical/sun_outage.html

There are many different pricing options for satellite installation depending on your location, the size of the dish you need, and whether you need a professional technician to help you install the dish or you want to try to do it yourself. Termination fees: All satellite packages have a minimum 18 month contract. If you cancel early, you have to pay a flat cancellation fee, which will be pro-rated according to how much of the contract you have already served. The base cancellation fees are: 1-way $495, 2-way $699, Broadband Regional Connect (1-way plus ISDN) $500.
